What is Downloadable Content?

Downloadable Content, or DLC, in its simplest definition, refers to additional content that can be downloaded and added to a game or software. This content usually includes new features such as characters, maps, weapons, levels, and cosmetic items. DLC has become increasingly popular over the years due to its ability to extend the life of a game while giving players new experiences.

Developers continuously create downloadable content for games long after they are released in order to keep their player base engaged. Gamers love this feature because it often adds more replay value and something new to look forward to each time they play.

DLC comes in various forms including free updates patching bugs within the game or major expansions sold separately with exclusive new materials included. Often times these extra contents are smaller than the original software itself but still require purchase or subscription.
