What is Proxy server?

Proxy server is a web technology that acts as a mediator between users and the internet. It serves as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. When you use a proxy server, your internet traffic appears to originate from the IP address of the proxy server rather than from your device's IP address.

A proxy server can be located on-premise, within a company network or in a data center somewhere else in the world. Users can access content that may be blocked by their internet service provider (ISP) or geographic restrictions using a proxy server. There are different types of proxies such as HTTP proxies, SOCKS proxies or SSL proxies which can offer different levels of security and functionality.

The most common reason for using a proxy server is hiding an individual’s identity while browsing or accessing certain websites. However, it can also provide various benefits to organizations such as improving security measures by filtering out malicious traffic entering the network through incoming requests.
